I appreciate Mary's relationship with her father and the importance he places on her as his daughter and a strong member of his family because too often in that time, daughters seemed treated more like currency than as important members of the household. I think it's different in this case. He trusts and cares for her a great deal.
I think one of my most favorite aspects of this story is that I AM able to picture it clearly. Dellert has a really unique way of thrusting readers into the world sort of abruptly and in doing that, asks us to adapt fairly quickly. That is so important in a novella of this size. We need to be able to visualize quickly in the time we have so we don't miss out on the actual story. I think it was done extraordinarily well. Descriptions and world building were on point. Can't wait to continue reading the rest of the installments!
I really enjoyed Eowain from the very beginning. His loyalty to his brother was admirable. However, I was also really excited about Lady Fidelm because she seems kind of badass. Looking forward to reading more about Lady Eithne. From what little I've read of her, she seems like she's going to be able to hold her own and I adore strong female characters.
