I have a few George Mackay Brown kicking around in my to-read pile, actually. He featured heavily in one of the Bloody Scotland talks that I went to and there was nothing but praise for him. I am looking forward to reading these :)
I have to admit that I am struggling a little bit with The Sellout so far. Possibly I am a little too distracted by every other book anywhere.... but, I shall set aside quality time to get it read.... at least until a copy of His Bloody Project arrives for me... :)
Hi Elvine, absolutely, paper is a must!
I was, however, showing off the app in the Library the other day, and you should have seen the look on the person's face when I just scanned the barcode of the book, et voila! Captured forever! No wonder my memory is so shocking, though, and my 'To Read' list so long!
Hi June, Happy New Year to you too :)
I have a couple of copies of The Sellout available behind the counter if you want to come and collect one. I am reading that one at the moment, and would love to get a copy of His Bloody Project too, but they are definitely all out at the moment!
It's interesting that you should be reading a self-published author - I am snaffling a few 2017 Reading Challenge ideas at the moment and one of the suggestions is for a self-published novel :) I shall need to see if I can find some of his stuff.

I was really surprised by how much I liked The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet - I have the sequel at home now, and once the Festives have settled down, I am quite looking forward to beginning it. Has anyone here read the sequel yet? A Closed and Common Orbit
We had a lady in the Library today looking for this title - sounds intriguing, no?
"In the mid 1930s, two young American scholars voyage to the Albanian highlands, the last remaining natural habitat of the oral epic, with one of the world's first tape recorders in hand. Their mission? To discover how Homer could have composed works such as The Iliad and The Odyssey without ever writing them down. Their research puts them at the center of ethnic strife in the Balkans and, mistaken for foreign spies, they are placed under surveillance. Research and intrigue proceed apace, until a Serbian monk plots a violent end to their project.
-- A work of inventive genius, "The File On H." is also a profound and eloquent comment on one of the most intractable conflicts of our time."
