At the Existentialist Café: Freedom, Being, and Apricot Cocktails played a big part in getting this bookclub off the ground. It also was the first book we picked. I've read it twice now (once as an audiobook) and think it is a good starting point.
I find Sartre's non-fiction to be a challenge, I remember reading What Is Literature? and that was a real struggle, but in the end I'm glad I read it...even if I only understood a small fraction of what he said.
This was such an interesting read, I think I need to think about it a little and then go back and re-read it. I was actually surprised just how much the lecture was dedicated to talking religion. Also I am curious about what Sartre might think of this lecture later in his life.
Someone recently told me of a lady who, when she let slip a vulgar word in a moment of irritation, excused herself by saying, “I guess I’m becoming an existentialist.”I need to start using this
What I'm referring to is the way they seem to treat the Arabs as second class citizens in part one and in part two the way the judge tries to force Christianity on him
I'm going through the re-read. I learnt so much from this book and the re-read is offering so much more. I love how accessible she makes the philosophy. I wish there were more books like this
I think we need to read;- Waiting for Godot
- Being and Time
- Being and Nothingness
- The Second Sex
but there are so many books to read, we won't run out of ideas anytime soon

If you are not too busy, I'm ok with that
This is the perfect introduction book to Existentialism and I am tempted to re-read it with everyone else because I enjoyed it so much
You know you should introduce yourself Rachel.I'm Michael, I am so excited for this bookclub and I will try to help out as much as possible. I'm the pretentious asshole that runs the blog at http://www.knowledgelost.org/ and I love it so much. I also have a booktube channel but I'm not proud of that, it is here if you don't know; http://www.youtube.com/c/Knowledgelos...
I'm planning to dedicate 2017 as the year to read up on philosophy, I have a buddy read with Britta planned for Either/Or: A Fragment of Life by Søren Kierkegaard and excited to see what this book club will help me discover. I've not read enough about existentialism but this will change that for me.
