( comments ) the judges (as well as the other contestants) really got a kick out of his song choice and martina campbell in particular was very clear in expressing her enjoyment in "that little booty action you had going there". they told him he had real talent in engaging and charming the audience as well. however, they noted that his performance rode more on charm and charisma than precision and that his rap lacked any distinct individual personality.

( comments ) the judges were incredibly impressed at the stability of dean's voice given the intensity and difficulty of the choreography. they asked him if he had choreographed it himself (he had), and if he was trying to make the show rating go up to 17+ viewers only (he wasn't).

they then asked him to freestyle dance ("make him do something cute") and were very impressed at how he incorporated a popping routine to fit with taylor swift's shake it off although they noted that he seemed rather "pained" to try and maintain a "bubbly" expression on his face.

Such charisma is (hopefully) what's going to get JackJack to the top. What he lacks for in distinct style or talent he makes up for with his suave gestures, his hand-kisses, his adorable reluctant finger hearts. Sure, JackJack may go over the top sometimes. He may be the one who gets the joke five minutes too late. And yes, even JackJack may not even be fully aware of how much cringe-y charm oozes out of his (nonexistent) pores. But it all adds to his overall appeal. Right?

Dean Yao is already kind of a celebrity. He was a backup dancer for Hit the Stage. He got over 800,000 views on Youtube when his former company, IG, posted a video of him covering I'm Not the Only One by Sam Smith. But when IG brought up trainee contract renewals, Dean realized that whatever success and publicity a large company could buy him would mean very little if he wasn't the one creating the content. So he terminated the contract and moved to a much smaller company─ and now, 1.5 years down the line, he's made his re-emergence as the sole contestant of JAMM Entertainment.

He's expected to make it to top 11. Which, with his level of talent, shouldn't be a problem. Except─ except, Dean has never been too great at connecting with other people. Something about "giving off a terrifying aura" and "being non-responsive"? Which is even worse now that he's realized half of these contestants are younger than him and all he wants to do is make sure that they get a fair amount of screentime and don't overwork themselves and eat three meals a day.
