I'm sorry, Arminius - I have difficulty getting my children to keep still! They even jump around when they're watching TV. They definitely don't get it from me, I'm much more sedate. I never do exercise purely for the sake of it - it has to offer multiple benefits. So my chosen exercises are yoga, cycling, and swimming which bring enjoyment, fresh air, fun and calm (along with health). Perhaps appeal to what your children love to do?
Good luck!
Thanks, Arminius. It took me a very long time to learn this. In fact, some days I still have to force myself to re-focus and remember what is truly important. Luckily, my children are experts at doing exactly that.
Thanks for your comments!
My biggest housework bugbear has got to be the kitchen. A spotless and tidy kitchen is a true joy for me but also, in my home, a lesser-spotted phenomenon. My kitchen is like a food-factory. With 2 adults working from home, two young and hungry children with various friends, toys and snacking requirements, the kitchen is in almost constant and perpetual use.
Yet, there appears to be only one member of staff. Me.
It used to be a source of never-ending angst and frustration but I am, slowly, coming to terms with it. I'm also making more use of appliances (don't tell my other half, who curiously doesn't agree with putting pans in the dishwasher...). I have also embarked on a training mission, 'encourage' the younger members to be more independent and self-sufficient. In fact, I actually caught one of them cleaning up their mess, the other day! So, I remain optimistic that, one day, I may just get on top of it all. I have hope, which I need because there is still a long way to go.
But, I've come to realise that, overall, I would rather have my family and a messy kitchen than a spotless home without them. I suppose this is the enlightenment behind the phrase, put-up or shut-up.
So, on that note, I will.
Look forward to hearing your stories of domestic bliss!
Hi everyone, Welcome to my Q&A.
I'm here to answer any questions you may have about how to stay sane in the domestic realm, as well as more specific questions about my new book; Housework Blues.
I look forward to your questions.
