He just made the second version funnier than first one."Actually, no, Evil Dead II is a sequel, not a remake. It starts with a recap of Evil Dead I, but soon goes into new material. EDII is when Ash gets the Boomstick in place of his hand.

Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, Tales From the Darkside, Night Gallery and good old Kolchack: The Night Stalker.Of course Kolchak was totally different...in more ways than one.
I watched all of them and still do when I can. One of the older ones I didn't care for was Tales From the Crypt. The stories they did were usually just plain silly.
Speaking of phobias...foot long homicidal ant-like creatures with faces from outer space.
They canceled the remake. After polling the fans and getting a universal "NO!", they decided to drop that idea. They are focused on the 4th film now and not much else (film wise). I think it's Raimi's brother that is writing the script.
Oh, I watched that too. My first love was and always will be Science Fiction & Fantasy. I started out reading the Fantasy & Science Fiction magazine. After comic of course. A super, super nice librarian would give me all the older copies and the occasional book as well. She started me on my love affair with Andre Norton, whom I still consider to be the best writer ever for that genre. She also gave me books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Not the Tarzen ones either. Which I still don't like. She gave me John Carter of Mars, Carson of Venus, At the Earth's Core, the Moon Maiden.
Andre Norton and ERB, my first exposure to the genre. From then on I was a lost cause.
Creature Feature showed all the classic Universal Horror movies. Plus several old RKO films like King Kong, Son of Kong, and the original Mighty Joe Young. They also aired all the Roger Corman B-movies, plus most of the Japanese "monster movies" produced by Toho Studios, and Daiei Motion Picture Company (famous for their Godzilla and Gamera movies).
They also broadcast all the best British horror films by Hammer Film Productions.
Then there were all the "nuclear monster" and "space alien" science fiction movies.
That where I developed my passion for B-movies. I absolutely love watching all those old sci-fi flicks and horror movies.
There were a few that scared me quite a bit and still make me a tad edgy! -grin-
Oh. Yeah. Those. I usually pay about $5 a month to 6 weeks on late fees. Once I had to replace a book that fell out of my car and landed in a mud puddle. Boy was I irate! Upset too. It was a brand new hardcover of Hell On Earth by Michael Reaves. A really good book, BTW. Better be good, it cost me $22.00! -grin-

Kaeli is great. She acts like nothing happened. They gave her a shot of pain med that was supposed to last 3 days and it did. Problem was it worked too well and I couldn't keep her quiet. By the end of the 3rd day she had slowed down and she stayed very quiet the 4th day. I imagine she was suddenly hurting a bit and it surprised her.
But now she is back to terrorizing the household. getting the other cats all upset and cranky and getting into places I never thought a cat could get into or do.
The nice part is that she is also spending a lot more time in my lap. Much to Zoe's dismay.
Vicki Jean. Nope, not finished yet. I've been concentrating more on Under the Dome. I'm about half done with Silk.
Oh yes, the zipper. Reminds me of those wonderful Godzilla movies with the guys zipped into their costumes and gleefully destroying model Tokyo over and over again.
We are all familiar with the monsters made famous by Universal or should be. The Universal Studio Monsters; The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, Bride of Frankenstein, Werewolf of London, Son of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, and Creature from the Black Lagoon.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universa...
We know them well, having grown up with them all these years. Now that another remake of Wolfman is coming out, which of the UM's is your favorite? Why is that?
I've always been partial to Frankenstein. Not sure why though. I remember watching the Creature Feature as a kid religiously (how many of you remember the Creature Feature?) and loving every moment of being terrified!
I think I liked Frank because he was a victim and I identified with him to a degree. He was brought into a world that feared and hated him to the point that it twisted him into a villain. He was different and was never given a chance.
There was a time when I fell asleep while watching a Dracula/Frankenstein feature and woke to a rapping on the front picture window. I could here some low sounds and more rapping. I was so scared I hid under the blanket, (everyone think ostrich!) only to EVENTUALLY find out is was my mom coming home from work and she had forgotten her house key.
It took a LONG time to outlive that one! -grin-
Vicki Jean wrote: "I saw the trailer for Clash of the Titans today, I'm stoked and Wolfman.........WOOHOO"Aren't they COOL! The CG on Clash is amazing. I watched the original over and over even with the effects they had then. I just hope they do as good on the story and acting as they seem to be with the FX. I don't want to see another film ruined because it's all FX and lousy acting.
The Wolfman! Oh boy! Oh Boy! Oh boy! Benicio del Toro is great, as is Sir Hopkins.
Then, for those that care, Jonathan Maberry has written a novelization of the film and it will be released 2/2/2010, same as the film.
Maberry is an author I follow closely. I don't usually care for movie novels, but I will probably read this one because of the author.
LOL! I can really see that now that you mention it. The Evil Dead trilogy is one of my all time favorite films. Bruce Campbell is great and fits my strange sense of humor perfectly! It would have to be strange to have seen EVERYTHING he has done! Even that crazy pirate show he was on. That was sooo bad! (Jack of All Trades) Then he was in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys as a couple different characters.
FYI; there is supposed to be an Evil Dead 4 coming out. Who knows when. As soon as Sam Raimi gets going I suppose. He's too busy with Spiderman 4 right now.
Yes, I remember when the 6th one came out. I meant to restock that collection back then, but...you know...stuff happens. Maybe they will have a nice box set of all 6 books. That would be cool.I have been wanting to reread the series for as long as you have mentioned it, VJ. Thanks to you it's stuck in my mind and I am always looking for the books when at the bookstore.
Vicki Jean wrote: "I have a small group of friends that I allow access to all my books, I have others I loan only my PBs, and then there are the ones I dont even consider.yeah, no library books for me. If they realized who I actually was I don't think they'd even let me in the place..... ..."
Ummm...and why is that VJ? Have you a secret to share? Been naughty at the local library?
I actually go to the library too much. So much that I have a backlog of my books to read. There are some books I simply can't get or afford or am to impatient to wait for and go to the library for those. Plus I volunteer at my branch. I keep all the PB's in order since they don't have the time to do so and I am a little anal about alphabetizing books. Nothing I hate more than trying to find one book among hundreds when they are in no order at all!
Yes, 9 is a great film. I need to buy it so I can watch it again and whenever I want to. It's one of those films that I could watch countless times. Kind of like Young Frankenstein. I never get tired of that film!I have several films that I like to watch again and again. They never seem to get tired to me.
Just for you, VJ.In the year 2047, a signal from the starship Event Horizon is picked up on Earth. The ship had disappeared without trace beyond Neptune in 2040; her loss was considered the worst space disaster on record. The ship has reappeared in a decaying orbit around the planet Neptune, and the rescue ship Lewis and Clark is dispatched to investigate. The ship's crew is commanded by Capt. Miller (Laurence Fishburne) and carries the Event Horizon's designer, Dr. William Weir (Sam Neill).
The crew discovers that although the ship's drive successfully opened a gateway in space-time, it actually led outside the known universe and into another dimension, described as "pure chaos, pure evil". The Event Horizon's reconstructed video log shows the original crew activating the gravity drive and, moments later, engaging in a frenzy of torture, self-mutilation, cannibalism and sodomy. The ship's captain, who has torn out his own eyes, leaves the previously-heard Latin message which has since been found to actually say liberate tutame ex inferis ("save yourself from Hell").
Sam Neill starred in another favorite film, In the Mouth of Madness.
A wonderful Lovecraftian film.
Pamela wrote: "And my horror short story, "Azathoth is Here" is up for voting at Preditors and Editors Poll, at http://www.critters.org/predpoll/ Scroll down until you see the Horror Short Stories link and click..."Not bad Pamela. Since I am a long. long time fan of HPL and the Cthulhu Mythos, it was especially fun to read. In fact, I got a good laugh after reading it.
I know, not the intended reaction, but I have a very strange sense of humor and am somewhat jaded.
I think 'Azathoth Is Here' is a good story and it makes me want to read more of your work.
How many believe in loaning their precious books out? Are you easy going and like to share the stories or are you possessive and keep everything? Or more likely, somewhere in between?I'm a tweener myself. But only for self preservation. I love to share my books. If there is a book I think is special, I will give it to someone that is interested. It's me doing my part to get people reading more. And reading more Horror.
I have a problem with people not returning books I have asked to be returned. Not that I do that very often anymore. Now a days, I only give out books I won't miss.
I DO have a library of books that don't leave the house. some are signed or special in some way. Some are ones that I spent years trying to find and some are simply ones I like too much to loan out as I want them here when I'm ready to read them again. Something I do frequently.
Anyway, enough of my blather, I rattle on too much.
How about you all? Are you keepers or loaners? And why?
Too funny that we all would be reading the same book and not have agreed to beforehand.Zoe has calmed down a bit. But I just have to get used to the idea that she is VERY possessive. She doesn't like it if any other cat gets on my lap. I've never had a cat so possessive. On the other hand, Kaeli is a live and let live type. Super friendly and loves everyone! I won't bore you with the other 3. -grin-
You know, Vicki Jean, you have always talked up the Black Jewel Trilogy and I agree that it is a fantastic read. My problem now is that after all this time, you have gotten to me and I want to read them again. Only my copies are gone! Damn! Now I have to go buy them AGAIN (3rd time). Which is okay. I just need to stop loaning books out to people that never return them. -grin-
Which makes me curious. I think I'll start a post with another question.
That's too funny Vicki Jean. We're having problems here too.Kaeli (the new one and newly neutered) is just fine. She acts like there is no pain or anything. The main difference is that she wants me with her all the time. She will do laps around my legs and generally be happy.
Zoe, my next youngest, is one of those cats that latches on to a person and nobody else better come near. She is treating Kaeli like she never saw her before. Growling, hissing and just being rude.
Niya and Jr are pretty much okay with her. Not much change with them.
Zoe has been getting more and more possessive of me and pretty much won't tolerate anyone else around. If some other cat gets in my lap, she chases them off. She spends most of her day (and night) sleeping on my lap.
So right now it's like a little ole soap opera here.
The Young and the Jealous Cats! -grin-
Back to books. I am rereading Silk too. Started it last night. It's been too long since I first read it and it's good enough that it deserves to be read often.
Of course I'm also reading a few other books as well. -grin-
With Silk, I have 5 books started. I REALLY need to stop reading the first page of a book when I get it. Because I can never stop at just one. -grin- I end up reading a few dozen and off we go. So right now, I am reading;
Depraved by Bryan Smith. And it really is depraved as is Bryan smith I fear! -grin-
Ghost Monster by Simon Clark. Another GREAT story by Simon. He remains on top as my favorite Horror writer. This month anyway. -grin-
Tainted by Julie Kenner. I've avoided her other books as being a little too sappy for me. She writes the Demon-hunting Soccer Mom series for example. But this one looks good. We'll see.
The Jake Helman Files: Personal Demons by Gregory Lamberson
Gregory Lamberson is a recent discovery of mine. The library had this book and I looked him up online. He has a couple other books out, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere around here and I REALLY want them! I like his style a lot.
He created 'Johnny Gruesome' and I want everything there is to do with that character. Plus he's a director, having released some low budget stuff (my favorite) Like 'Slime City' and 'Undying Love' out on tape as 'New York Vampire'.
Okay, I've yakked enough here.
As A matter of fact, I have. I think I have read most of her work. It's really different and good. Her Threshold books with Chance leave you wondering and Silk is just plain good.
I recently picked up Daughter of Hounds, but haven't read it yet.
