Damn, honestly it's been so long. Jog my memory about Requiem. I don't remember if I liked him or not.

Oh, God! Not a good sign. Well don't hold back on my behalf. I'm not enforcing a spoiler ban since the book came out almost a full month ago. So vent away!

Oh, so it's basically like Micah's book then. Oh, well good to know. No, no need for me to skip it. I'm in no hurry. I'm basically being nosey at this point about it. I have to read Affliction first.

Glad you are catching up on the series! Are you completely caught up yet?
I am in need of catching up myself because the last book I read was Kiss the Dead.

42899 I know I'm totally late but I'm going to get caught up on the series starting with Affliction.

42899 Anita Blake has the highest kill count of any vampire executioner in the country. She’s a U.S. Marshal who can raise zombies with the best of them. But ever since she and master vampire Jean-Claude went public with their engagement, all she is to anyone and everyone is Jean-Claude’s fiancée.

In Dead Ice, Anita's engagement is wreaking havoc with her reputation as a hard ass—to some extent. Luckily, in professional circles, she’s still the go-to expert for zombie issues. And right now, the FBI is having one hell of a zombie issue.

Someone is producing zombie porn. Anita has seen her share of freaky undead fetishes, so this shouldn’t bother her. But the women being victimized aren’t just mindless, rotting corpses. Their souls are trapped behind their eyes, signaling voodoo of the blackest kind.

It’s the sort of case that can leave a mark on a person. And Anita’s own soul may not survive unscathed

42899 I haven't read this book yet but a few things are painfully clear here as I read the little blurb. There are no vampires to kill, no raising of the dead, no monsters... Jason gets a whole book? Jason? A secondary character? I like Jason but why is this storyline front and center? Did he already have front and center in Blood Noir?

42899 But sometimes you have to explain the unexplainable, especially if the love of your life needs to understand, or she'll leave you. Jason Schuyler is one of Anita Blake's best friends and favorite werewolves, with benefits. J.J. is his lady love, an old flame from childhood who dances at one of the top ballet companies in New York. She's accomplished, beautiful, and she's crazy about him, too. Neither of them wants to be monogamous, so what could go wrong?

J.J. is enthusiastically bisexual, with an emphasis on the female side of things. She plans to keep sleeping with women, because Jason can't meet that need, just like she can't meet Jason's need for rough sex and bondage. J.J. doesn't understand why Jason isn’t content to go elsewhere for a need she can’t fulfil, so Jason asks Anita to help him explain.

Anita is having her own relationship growing pains with her only female lover ever, Jade. Jason suggests that J.J. might be able to help Anita with her girl problem, while she helps him with his kinky explanations. With some encouragement from a few other lovers in Anita's life she reluctantly agrees, and J. J. makes plans to fly into town for an experience that none of them will ever forget.

Kiss the Dead (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #21) by Laurell K. Hamilton Book 21:Kiss the Dead (2012)
When a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it's up to U.S. Marshal Anita Blake to find her. And when she does, she's faced with something she's never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people - kids, grandparents, soccer moms - all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master. And where there's one martyr, there will be more...

But even vampires have monsters that they're afraid of. And Anita is one of them.

Affliction (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #22) by Laurell K. Hamilton Book 22:Affliction (2013)
Some zombies are raised. Others must be put down. Just ask Anita Blake.

Before now, she would have considered them merely off-putting, never dangerous. Before now, she had never heard of any of them causing human beings to perish in agony. But that’s all changed.

Micah’s estranged father lies dying, rotting away inside from some strange ailment that has his doctors whispering about “zombie disease.”

Anita makes her living off of zombies—but these aren’t the kind she knows so well. These creatures hunt in daylight, and are as fast and strong as vampires. If they bite you, you become just like them. And round and round it goes…

Where will it stop?
Even Anita Blake doesn’t know.

Jason (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #23) by Laurell K. Hamilton Book 23:Jason (2014)
"Enjoying pain with your pleasure is something you either get, or you don't. If you get it, then you don't really need it explained, because you know how good it feels, and if you don't get it then no amount of talking is going to convince you it makes sense."

Dead Ice (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #24) by Laurell K. Hamilton Book 24:Dead Ice (2015)
Anita Blake has the highest kill count of any vampire executioner in the country. She’s a U.S. Marshal who can raise zombies with the best of them. But ever since she and master vampire Jean-Claude went public with their engagement, all she is to anyone and everyone is Jean-Claude’s fiancée.

42899 I've been on hold with this series for so long I've neglected my own group. Sorry guys.

I do understand where Dan and is coming from with his annoyance. I've noticed that the series does have significantly less horror than it does sex. At the beginning of the series there was more focus on the new monster, mystery or villain.

Now though, there is a lot of shuffling of men and acquiring of new men.
Keep in mind that there really isn't anything wrong with that if you enjoy it.

I believe that for some it's just simply a matter of expecting this series to stay the vampire hunting course with sex as an added bonus and not vice versa.

Me personally, I can honestly say at this point in the series I was expecting a little more. Given the lifespan of all the characters involved, why not play with the timeline a little. Give us a little playing room to see some things pan out and come to pass and develop into something. A little more focus on the well established 30 plus characters. Maybe a little less explanation of who's going to sit where in the restaurant booths.

We're on book 24! SPOILER! If you don't know by now, Anita is freaking paranoid and won't sit with her back to the door!

I notice that sometimes LK has more descriptive information about the food they've eaten or who should lead the team in than a new character that's been introduced. I'm only basing this by the last AB book I read and that was Kiss the Dead. (I know! I'm going to catch up soon!)
Other than that, I just kind of let it all go and not look at it too closely. It's obvious that LK wouldn't continue writing it if she wasn't pleased with the story she's trying to tell so I've just learned to step back and let her tell it.

I also wouldn't mind seeing some nice little novellas that focussed on let's say one of the were groups or other couples all be it M/M, M/F, M/M/M or M/F/F in Anita's circle. I think those side stories without Anita would bring something fun to the table.

42899 I know Jared is your man but I'd like him as Bernardo. Bernardo is supposed to be really, really hot! But he's human, which is why I really think Anita can see herself getting with him.
Anyway Jared would be able to show that lightness that the character has keeping his dark side hidden.

You think that's something just guess who I picked for your favorite asshole and mine... Oalf... Just replace American snark with clipped Russian comments and you got yourself an Assassin/Serial Killer/ Nightmare. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLGJFF...
Apr 04, 2012 09:53PM

42899 Yea, that does make some sense. But, I think that's the point. None other characters in the entire series can picture Ted as Edward. That's his defense. It's only Anita, the other assassins, and the vampires that have heard about him who can see the killer within.

Jenson is an excellent actor and I've seen him play a charecter with a duality going back and fourth from normal to killer on Smallville. He can, pull it off.

I'm not big on blonds, knowing my track record for crushing on psychopathic thinkers, I'm glad Edward was not described as a dark haired - hazel eyed - dreamboat.
Apr 03, 2012 08:16AM

42899 Someone mentioned this on the Edward board and I've been thinking about it a bit.

I like the idea of Jensen Ackles as Edward, Ted, Theodore... Whatever... I think he'll have the ability to look good ole boy one minute and cold blooded killer the next while looking like a girls dream to his fiance.

Jensen Ackles

And even though he doesn't look Native American enough and is of Polish decent, I wouldn't mind seeing Jared Padalecki as Bernardo. Sooo sexy.

Jared Padalecki

42899 Just did a re-read of the opening chapters... Again... I just love that Holy Shit moment between Anita and Jean-Claude when Richard makes Asher an offer he can't refuse.

The Hyenas are all like, "Don't fall for it master." and Asher is all like, "Get off me! I'm about to get laid... Properly."

It cracks me up every time!

Wait, I want to say this happened in Bullet? Damian did have a girlfriend. Right? Because when Anita called to her triumvirate for backup she got pissed off and was trying to stop Damian from going to her bed.
