If I had pick only one author as a favorite, it would probably be Richard Russo, but I have enjoyed many writers over the years as diverse as Donald Westlake and Philip Roth.
As anyone who has seen the cover of the book knows, the novel was inspired by stories my mother told me about growing up in a small Kansas town in the 1920s.
I take the barbell approach to writing each day. That's barbell, not dumbell, thank you. By which I mean: I tend to have the most success with a difficult writing issue first thing in the morning and then again just before bedtime.
