Home for Christmas describes about the Christmas, culture and etiquettes. Mostly it describes Christmas how Canadians celebrate and what the customs are. This book is significant for the people who are new immigrants and international business people. When the new immigrants come to Canada, they may know or may not know about the climate. If the new immigrants don’t know about the climate, they don’t know when the season is changing during which month. There are four seasons in Canada. If they know about the climate, they will wear the clothes which are suitable for the seasons.
In Canada, even if they are not Christians, Christmas is a common festival. Canada is a multicultural country. Wherever we go, we can see all the different race people working together. Canadians celebrate Christmas in the long holidays. The students go to shopping before Christmas because they have two weeks off for Christmas. When other people celebrate Christmas in a work place, we exchange gifts with each other. “I have pied my arms high with gifts.” When other people enjoy Christmas, if some people are away from the event that they organize in the work place, it considered as rude for the organizers. If the new immigrants come to Canada from different countries, they don’t know about the rules that much. Some native country doesn’t have any specific rules for fireworks. We can do fireworks for any festivals but Canadians have the specific period of time for fireworks. If the new immigrants light the fireworks, the police will arrest or warn them. It is a most important thing to know.
When the international business people like to conduct the trades with Canada, they have to know the Canadian etiquettes. Some hand gestures are good in their country but the same hand gestures may not be good in Canada. It will affect the business and the relationship among them. If they like to improve the relationship, they have to know the customs of the country where they like to trade. The business depends on behaviors and honest. The business people decide to trade with other how we behave with them. If the other business men believe the other international business people from how they behave. The exporters will export the goods to them if they like our goods and services. They will order again but they won’t come to see the products. Honest improves the trades between countries. If new immigrant may be teenagers, they have to know the culture very well. It will be helpful in the future.
This book is significant for new immigrants and international business people because it gives the cultural information such as how to behave with other people, how Canadians celebrate Christmas. This book is not just information. The author distracts the readers mind to the book because he gave all the cultural information through short stories. If it is like stories, the readers like to read. All the new immigrant and international business people of Canada should read this book.

The novel “Home for Christmas” is written by Sabine Campbell, Fred Cogswell. The author feels sad to the people who left their family and they live separately. When they celebrate Christmas, their mind thinks about their home and family. They think about how they celebrate with their family. They eat in their Christmas table and share the gift. After they go to different place, they couldn’t celebrate happily. When they celebrate any festival, the house is filled with the neighbours but the house is so quite.
He piques my interest to the book, because I have the same feeling. That’s why his novel piques my interest. Whenever I have the Tamil traditional festivals such as New Year, Thai pongal and Deepavali, I always think about my native country Sri Lanka. We have national holidays for our festival but when I celebrate here, I feel uncomfortable. I and the author Sabine Campbell also have the same feeling. When I celebrate here, sometimes I have school or work. In Canada, it is difficult to visit the neighbours on Tamil festivals, because they also have some work. I chose this book for another reason. I like to know about the other culture and their customs. I think that this book talks about the Christmas. In Canada, I should know how to celebrate Christmas because I would be helpful to the fortune. Canada is a multicultural country, therefore everyone celebrates the Christmas. When we have two weeks holiday for the Christmas, we can celebrate with all the neighbours.
