Charlie reached the rock first and leaned against it, grinning like a wildwoman. There was no way that she was going to let him see how close to collapse she really was. Her legs were on fire, her head was pounding, and her lungs felt like they were filled with acid, but somehow she was able to infuse her words with a carefree, teasing tone, "I guess the best man won," she called to him.

Mitch grabbed the doorframe for support and managed to hobble in by himself. He reached the sink and lifted his leg into it, crying out when he bumped his wound on the countertop.

"Now is not the time for that," said Mitch, softly, "it's either too early or too late. If I survive this, I fully intend to sweep you off your feet," he promised.

Charlie shrugged, "Sorry sweetheart. I guess what's wrong is..." she paused dramatically, "you're way too gullible." Charlie took off again.

Charlie knew there was no way that either of them were going to win. They could keep racing for the next million years and they would still be perfectly in sync. So she tried one last, risky ploy: she stopped dead in her tracks and screamed.

"You will manage this, with me or without me. Want to know why? Because you were brave enough to forgo what you wanted for what the rest of the world needed. And you have to do it again. Whether they know it or not, they all need you. You're going to bring them all back together again., Alice," Mitch couldn't stop the name from bouncing around his head. Alice, Alice, Alice. So short, so sweet, so lyrical, like a drop of honey on his tongue. A name that he would have fallen in love with even if the girl it belonged to hadn't been as magical and enchanting as she was.

Charlie laughed, forcing her words out smoothly instead of the gasping her body begged her to do, "Talking to yourself now, Billy-goat? I guess I truly have driven you crazy," she had the slightest lead on him now, but any misstep could pull her behind.

"I really do like you, and if I had one wish right now it would be that we met at any time," Mitch stumbled and put his foot down, crying out in pain, "but this."

i could be off for 2-3 days, and then on randomly for a week after that, :( but i will get on as much as i can

Charlie wasn't about to let him. She was shorter, sure, which meant he had the advantage of longer legs, but she knew she was faster. She pushed herself as hard as she could, determined not to lose this. He'd proven her wrong too many times in 24 hours.

"Alice?" said Mitch, the pain now fogging his vision.

He lead her to the housing wing.

"I would never do such a thing," said Charlie, aghast, "I never play dirty when I know that I can beat someone fair and square," she grinned at him, "Ready, set, go!"

"First, tell Charlie that I love her and give her a huge hug. And my sword. She was always jealous of my sword, but I never let her have it since she loses things a lot. And when you and Will move on, could you please take her with you until you find some other settlement for her to join? She'll act like she's okay being alone, but she's not," breathed Mitch, the pain catching up to him.

i think two is smart. guy and girl each?

"This way," said Everett.

"Race you," challenged Charlie when they came to the edge of the woods, where the path became double-wide.

Mitch hobbled as fast as he could. "Look, I'm going to say some things now just in case I die today. Don't freak out, okay?"

"Do you need a place to rest?" offered Everett.

so, what kind of rp? like, spies, royalty, pirates, supernatural/paranormal?

"Okay," said Mitch through gritted teeth, "you wouldn't happen to have any alcohol, would you? It's ideal for cleaning out wounds... and killing the pain."

Charlie rolled her eyes, wondering if that chauvinist remark deserved a cruel retort. It didn't. She started jogging along the trail her and Mitch had marked out to Hugh's Rock.

"We need to get to running water, so I can wash this thing out. It'll be thirty minutes until my foot starts to crust up and I can walk on it, but we don't have thirty minutes to just sit around so I need you to help me walk by letting me lean on you," said Mitch fast, adrenaline was all that was keeping him from crying like a baby from the pain.

Charlie nodded. Traditionally food days were her least favorite, but she didn't think it would be quite as bad with Will around.
