I went with KDP Select in July, because my Nook sales just weren't cutting it. Very happy with it... I think the borrow option gives authors a great impulse buy opportunity. When BN.com decides to invest in their website and make it more user-friendly and reviewer-friendly, I'll go back to them, but right now Amazon is working harder for my business as an indie author.
"Horse-Famous: Stories" is free this weekend (August 18-19)! This collection of short stories examines the emotions and motivations of people who choose - or who are chosen to - spend their lives with horses. Includes the first chapter of my best-selling horse racing novel, "The Head and Not The Heart." Thanks, and enjoy!

My sales at BN.com spiked on Christmas Day and remain high. They integrated reviews from previous editions of one of my books, which was great, but I think that the banner sales of Nook tablets are the reason. We just have more buyers now.
I was thinking of going to a Tumblr format for my personal blog. I think dropping the cool bits of Internet that we find as we're surfing into a blog is a fun way to connect with people. I don't have time to read blogs, so I don't really have any expectation that people will spend a lot of time on mine. And it eats up so much time writing them.
I think my concern is more that Amazon is being allowed to completely dominate the ebook industry, with no competition from other companies, and I'm not sure that we should give them that much power. As for the links, I don't know why those don't work. I didn't enter in any data to begin with. They've never worked. Whole other problem.
So is everyone just signing up for KDP Select? I have reservations about it. I don't think Amazon should have exclusive rights to my work... that wasn't the deal when I originally published my Kindle version.
Hello! My name is Natalie Keller Reinert and I recently self-published my first novella, "The Head and Not The Heart." I published via Smashwords and Kindle, and I'm looking forward to ordering my CreateSpace proofs this week!Although I live in Brooklyn, my background is in the horse business, so my writing focuses on the ins and outs of the horse show and horse racing industries.
I'm not one hundred percent convinced that self-publishing is the best vehicle for my books, but I'd like to take it as far as I can! Looking forward to discussing it more with others. I did really enjoy learning the formatting process, so I'm considering offering that as a service.
