Wow what a great discussion topic! I think that I was born not wanting to follow the 'rules.' It wasn't until my early 20's that I felt comfortable enough to quiet the inner-struggle I had experienced for so long. My struggle was between the structured and restricting environment of growing up in a small town and the true me that just wanted to express myself in 'my' way . . . eventually I trusted myself and along with distance-ing myself from those that were critical and judgemental of my life pursuits, I was able to experience inner-peace. And although my struggles were very different from your character, Perry Burns, I believe in lots of times, deep down, a person knows what path to follow. They just have to be strong enough to follow that inner-voice.
The greatest date I ever went on was years ago when I was in my twenties. I had met a nice man and we had known each other only a short while when my birthday rolled around. This was the year that the movie 'Pretty Woman' had just come out. I really couldn't afford it, but I went out and bought a dress just like the one Julia Roberts wore at the outdoor function in the movie. It was chocolate brown with cream poke-a-dots. The night of my birthday I primped for hours, fixing my hair like Julia's in the movie. When I put on the dress and looked in the mirror, although no Julia Roberts, I had to admit I liked the image looking back at me. I only hoped that my date would be just as pleased with my efforts. My date finally arrived. I experienced an incredible sensation when I opened the door. It was a sensation of being swept away . . . falling. The look in my dates eyes when he saw me spoke so many of the words he had yet to tell me.
We had a beautiful dinner looking out over the River (False River) in New Roads Louisiana. The conversation, the atmosphere, mood was all perfect for two people to start down the road of falling in love . . . and we did.
Jeff when can we expect delivery of the book? Just a note, for the intelligent, romantic female (if you can get past WEDDING CRASHERS), I think Rachel McAdams (I think that's her name) would do well in a role like described. Also, I always thought Edward Burns would do well in a movie for your type of writing. Look at a picture of him. He has alot going on with his eyes. Just my opin :)
