Hello all! Several years after this group fell dormant due to my lack of time to spend on it, I think it's time to bring it back. :)I've set up a poll to choose a book for September, from the science fiction category. I hope you'll vote, and participate in the September discussions!
Sorry for the delay; I was out of town. No, I've read The Hobbit several times! Fantasy is pretty much all I read. :)
I know what you mean about not wanting to spoil a great memory of a book! Though I do like to think that The Hobbit would stand the test of growing up. :)
The poll is now up for the April book of the month, which will be from the Romance category. Check it out on the Polls page!
I've been told that some group members find it easier to keep track of the group's polls and whatnot if there's a thread they can subscribe to. So, in this thread I'll post every time there's a poll up, and every time a book is chosen. That way you can subscribe to this thread and get notifications for everything. :)
Cheryl, do you not get emails when I send out messages about the polls? When I post a poll, I always announce it with a message right away. I was assuming everyone got that.I could definitely start a thread for such announcements, too, if that's helpful for you. I'll start one the next time there's an announcement.
This is the discussion topic for people who are planning to read or have started reading The Hobbit. No spoilers here, please! There will be a separate topic for people who have finished it, where spoilers are fine.
This discussion topic is for people who have finished reading The Hobbit. There will certainly be spoilers here!
Jill wrote: "Is this group still active?"I would like it to be! The poll to pick the January book ended with a tie, and due to the craziness of the holidays I never ended up doing a tiebreaker, so there was no January book. Then in January I posted a tie-breaker poll from that last poll to pick the February book, but no one voted on it. I'll put it up again for March and hopefully this time we'll actually pick a book!

Yep, the poll ended a few days ago. I'll add it to the group bookshelf now. It's The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum.
I'm not quite halfway through. I really didn't expect to like this book. It's often compared to The Help, which I hear pretty much only bad things about. But I'm actually really enjoying this one so far!I've never seen the movie. Maybe I'll watch it after I finish the book. It does have Queen Latifah in it, so that's a big plus for me. :)
This discussion topic is for people who have finished reading The Secret Life of Bees. There will certainly be spoilers here!

I started listening to the audiobook of this one, read by the author. But a couple chapters in, I'm feeling bored! I think I'm going to put this one down, and maybe pick it up paperback form some time. The author's a bit of a dull reader. Is anyone else reading this one?
Welcome to the group, Jill! :)I skipped Les Mis because I doubt I could have finished it in a month! Haha.
How far in advance do you think we should pick books of the month? What I've been doing is opening the poll at the beginning of the month before, and closing it about halfway through that month. That leaves a couple of weeks to get the book from the library, buy it, or whatever. So, is that long enough? Beyond Reality (which I look at to see how a huge and awesome group does things) already has their December books picked out! Would that be too far in advance?
What are your thoughts on this?
