77563 Part 1/5
Strong/Potent word image: 28-29 “The women’s oyster flesh eyes fell on me and I grew instantly colder”
New words: pg.25 frivolity, pg.26 dainty, pg 25 unmitigated
Rhetorical/Literary devices:
Imagery-pg 43 Tub’s eyes was red and swollen and dead-looking..”
Metaphor, Imagery: pg 57 “She declared, and loudly that my brother was a heathen and the hottest water of hell could not cleanse him.”
Impression of this part: The story starts of quickly with the main character Eli and his brother Charlie well renowned murderers being introduced. There are a lot of things packed into these few pages. Many things happen to the characters, and some of the events are somewhat random and confusing.

Part 2/5
Strong/Potent word image: PG 89 “His eyes were full of mistrust and dislike and he was in short a most unfriendly young man”
New words: pg 85 reprimand, pg 113 petulance, pg 120 virulently
Rhetorical/Literary devices:
Personification- pg 115 “The thought that the earth itself was talking care of you, was in favour of you.”
Simile-pg 101”... Lucky Paul can climb these hills like a spider climbs a wall”
Impression of this part: As they are getting closer towards their goal the pace of the book slows down a little. At this point it is mostly focused on Eli’s “love life” or his failure of having one.

Part 3/5
Strong/Potent word image: pg 162- “Perhaps a man is never meant to be truly happy. Perhaps there is no such a thing in our world after all.”
New words: pg. 142 quaint, pg 172impotently, pg 182 tepid
Rhetorical/Literary devices:
Simile- pg 137 “Your laughter is like cool water to me”
Personification -pg 137 “I felt my heart sob”
Impression of this part: In this part things start to get even more interesting. After they left their last stop with a fair amount of things gained. They have arrived at their destination. Only for them to be greeted by something they would never expect.

Part 4/5
Strong/Potent word image: pg 211 ”The Golden pearl was simply bathed in wine-red heavy velvet with hundred-candle chandeliers over each table, bone china plates, silk napkins and solid silver cutlery.”
New words: pg 198: incongruously, pg 210 perambulations, pg 211 immaculate
Rhetorical/Literary devices:
Sarcasm – “I will never tire of the subject as long as I am living”
Personification pg 225 “As I drifted away to sleep I watched the tree tops bowing and clashing in the wind”
Impression of this part: In this part: After many more twists in the story things seem to be finally turning out really well for Eli and his brother. The pace yet again slows down a little. The author is probably trying to get the readers to think everything will end perfectly.

Part 5/5
Strong/Potent word image: pg 266 “The guillotine he said was the mechanical embodiment of man’s underachievement and aesthetic sloth.”
New words: pg 303 pontificate, pg 272 reveille, pg 270 cocksure
Rhetorical/Literary devices:
Personification- pg 325 “The sound the water made was like a voice...”
Personification, Imagery- pg 281 “I could actually see the blisters rising and falling as though they were breathing.”
Impression of this part: In this part: At the end of the last part everything seemed to be going perfect. When I started reading this part things went crazy. This was probably the first time when I was reading a book where I would read something and say to myself “what the ****” out loud, as soon as a thought things couldn’t change anymore it happened until the very end where it ended in the most unusual fashion. Overall this was a wonderful book to read!
77563 The book that I chose is The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt. When I was first looking for a book that appealed to me this book showed up as a nominee for several awards. It had also won the Governor General's Literary award for fiction books. At first the slightly contrasting title and the creative cover intrigued me, but I looked no further then that. After a while of searching I decided to read the synopsis. The story has a wild west theme, and it is about two hit man brothers who have juxtaposed personalities on a mission to kill a man. The story is shown though the eyes of Eli the more peaceful one of the two. Out of all the books that I looked at this one was by far one of the most fascinating. I have always been one to love an action and adventure filled book and this seems like it is filled with it. At first I was reluctant to choose this as my book to read hastily, because their may have been other books worthy of reading. Later on I read the excerpt, and I liked the author's style of writing. The author himself isn't familiar with me, but I barely know and remember any authors even ones from books I have read and thought were good. I am not adept at judging literature, but the authors style of writing is simple yet profound. Without doubt this will be the kind of book that keeps me turning the pages until the very end.
