The sequel to Miss Peregrine is out! It is called Hollow City. I was playing around on here and found that you can enter giveaways to possibly get free books, Hollow City is one! I love love love getting cheap/free books, thought I'd share :)
http://www.brandonsanderson.com/Here is a link to the authors website. You can read chapters from his books, find out how to pronounce things, and have access to awesome extra content!
The author has confirmed that some of the cultures in Elantris were based on actual cultures, any guesses as to which?
I liked Hrathen a lot more than the other Fjordell priests because he seemed to have a logical set of rules by which he lived his life. But in general he was most definitely my least favorite.
This book follows three main characters: Roaden, Sarene, Hrathen. Right off the bat do you find yourselves liking one character more than the others? Less?
How does social class define Oz? What is the role of animals and Animals? Why do you think Elphaba fights for them?
Oooo Angie that link looks sweet! I'm going to have to watch it when I am not at work :)I am currently in the process of reading the original, which make Wicked that much more interesting!
If you were in a detention center which survival method would you choose: looking good, or talking 'good'? Or do you feel there are other options?
Booooo Boooo Lawrence. He uses both his participation in events and his abstaining from participation to further his own ends, rather than thinking of Sarah or his wife. But he is just so darn biege that it's hard to pin him down as ever doing anyhting bad. I suppose he redeems himself a bit at the end. I can't help but think he is only cleaning up a mess that he made though, which I'm not sure makes him deserving of any praise.
I had a hard time deciding what to think of her. I kept expecting the author to either reveal her to be a 'baddy' or a 'goody' by some defining feature, but she really is just human. A little bit unsure, a little bit unsatisfied, but basically a good person at heart.
One of the 'getting to know you' activities my husband and I did was to tell each other the stories of all of our scars. Of course ours were not nearly so heart-wrenching as some of the ones in Little Bee, but it was a way we could relate where we came from :)P.S. Harry Potter is amazing and if your kids are reading it you can follow along with the books on www.pottermore.com and see extra features. For instance, it turns out Professor McGonagall has a great backstory which was not mentioned in the books.
I agree, when I read it I thought it was a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Sherry had a good point- who does feel good about themselves in high school? Most people haven't quite figured themselves out yet, haven't found a balance.
Charlie's sister bothered me especially because she seemed to start liking her bf more when he was horrible to her. I almost wonder if there was more going on with Charlie's parents than the author lets on, because both of the kids have such problems with self-worth.
Charlie's sister says that Sam and Mary Elizabeth have low self-esteem. Do you agree with her? What do you think about Charlie's sister's self-esteem?
Does anyone in the book feel good about themselves?
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/98...A list of the books Charlie reads if you'd like to know a little more about them.
I have a hard time re-reading books without skipping over huge sections (I do this with movies too, I clean the house during those parts- which might make you think I have a clean house, but the skipping sections rule also applies there :) ). The only books I have ever been able to re-read thoroughly are The Chronicles of Narnia. Love me some C. S. Lewis :)
