FYI this is the 9th year I've put this list together. Last year’s list generated almost 7,000 books with 1,000 voters.
The top 5 books were

Hey Buggy, can there be a "spamming" provision where when it's clear that a book is being spammed to the list, it can be removed? The top five last year were all spam!Thank you for doing this again, and happy new year!
Thanks again for the list and I agree with Megan. I'd love to see a spamming stipulation, too. It kind of took some of the fun out of it last year, so I'm hoping for more honest votes this year.Once again, though, thank you for putting this together. Can't wait to see what other people are reading!

Hey Megan . I agree with you 100 percent and honestly was unsure of the validity of the top 5 reads last year. The problem is I'm unsure of how to prove that books are spam. If you have an answer lets figure this out
I think it would be pretty obvious if the book gets 100+ votes in a couple of days, and when (most of) those voters haven't voted for a single other book on the list. The Aleron Kong book from last year is a prime example of that. The more zealous of us can check the read date for some of them - a lot of people mark books as read in the previous year or not read at all. They get brazen! If we can make a pretty convincing argument based on that info, I think it would be totally fine to remove a book. Anyone else have ideas?
Rana wrote: "I like the wording in the description of this list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1..."Me too I may have to borrow something along the same lines. Thanks Rana
Rana wrote: "I like the wording in the description of this list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1..."Why, gee, thanks :D
And as long as it isn't exactly the same (ie, mentioning the exact criteria of my list LOL), you are most welcome to :D
Rana wrote: "Kylie wrote: "#9 is spam - 5 ratings here, 5 in total."And it's on 60+ lists!"
And all of the people who rated it (if you mean the book that is now number ten) have no friends so possibly sock puppets. Perhaps criteria for determining and deleting spam could be a consensus of some kind?
Shelby wrote: "I know it's kinda late, but does someone still want to do April?"Sorry I missed it. I'll post it now.
Is anyone else impressed that the top 100 is much less super-spammy than last year's?! Has someone been removing obvious spam books? Or have we finally gotten through to people with our whining? lol

Megan wrote: "Is anyone else impressed that the top 100 is much less super-spammy than last year's?! Has someone been removing obvious spam books? Or have we finally gotten through to people with our whining? lol"I'm just glad this year isn't as clogged with spam as last year.
Aaan spam appeared - "NICU II and Victoria's Incestuous Romance" all of its voters voted only for this one book. Should I remove it?
@LoreleyWell, my blessing you've got, as I hate spammers. I don't know how others feel about this though.
Loreley wrote: "I'll still wait for the list creator's permission but my hands are itching :)"Gah!!!!!!!!!! I hate the spammy votes. I agree that waiting for the list creator's permission is appropriate, but is there an allowance for if the creator doesn't respond after a certain amount of time? This is why I'd love to see a spam caveat in the description.
Loreley wrote: "Aaan spam appeared - "NICU II and Victoria's Incestuous Romance" all of its voters voted only for this one book. Should I remove it?"It definitely looks like spam to me, too. 231 ratings total and 30 of them are here? Seems suspect, especially since so many of the voters are on accounts that were just opened and the other lists that they voted on all relate to this book...
Loreley wrote: "found another one - Deadly Pretty Strangers"Yep, that's the one we were talking about back in February. Luckily it got kicked down below top 10, but I'd still like to see that one gone.
OK, I'm deleting both of them. If someone legit read it, sorry and they are welcome to vote for it again
Loreley wrote: "...and they are welcome to vote for it again "Auw... Don't say that! :-) Spammers also think they are legit...

You were right, LOL. NICU II and Victoria's Incestuous Romance is already back on the list (at #25), along with that author's other books.
Almost all of the voters joined in June 2018 :)) and the ones that didn't, haven't added the book as read in 2018. I have time, I'll continue deleting it as long as I see at least one fake vote

Good on you!

Not all heroes wear capes!
Rana wrote: "They're baaacccckkkkk!!! #40, 56, and 634 (page 8). I'll give them their persistence."And I've deleted them. Again...
#34 A Conceptual Circus - looks spammy, and it's the same author of the NICU II book which deleted multiple times. These people are persistent!
