But I think it would be prudent to have a consensus on genre classification and other list related issues. Believe it or not, one person's science fiction may be another person's fantasy. Thus we must establish a few ground rules or these lists may reflect the subjective nature of individual perspective rather than groupthink.
I don't want to argue about Fantasy vs. Science Fiction definitions, I prefer to just call it all speculative fiction. But since we have two lists, I think the following books should be on the other list, not this one: A Night in the Lonesome October
Divine Misfortune
Chasing the Moon
Trick of the Light
and probably others I've missed.

Most people never browse the SF and F sections on a book store so they only hear about them when they have already become very popular."In other groups its common to go by Goodreads shelving consensus. If the majority of users have it shelved as science fiction, then its science fiction. If the majority have it shelved as fantasy, then its fantasy. It it seems mixed, then its open to discussion.

Thanks for keeping an eye open to detail.
* A Night in the Lonesome October
* Divine Misfortune
* Chasing the Moon
* Trick of the Light
ThanksOK, let's see what else I can find. I'll check the other list, too.
Among Others is on both lists.
From the Dust Returned
Necroscope
Ghostlight
Jhereg
Declare
The Nimble Man
Dark Cities Underground
WebMage

So, a question. When something on the list gets selected for the month, do we need to go and delete the book from our votes? Or will someone in charge removing the book from the list make sure that it doesn't pop back up?

I removed Ender's Game and Forever War again from the list. Both have already been read by the club and shouldn't be on this list. Please check the S&L bookshelf to see if a book has been read before adding it.
I removed my vote for Redshirts after reading it. OMW is still a better Scalzi book. I think more people would like OMW than Redshirts.
HI, I am new to Goodreads and looking for the best SF book group (and I wouldn't mind hearing about movies and TV as well) to belong to. This looks like it may be it. I'm an author as well so always interested in new anthologies, agents and publishers too. Cheers Ed
I don't know if anyone refers to this list anymore, but I removed Foundation and Old Man's War since the group has now read them.
I've removed Dragonflight and Downbelow Station because they're the current and previous month's picks respectively. We should probably remove Neuromancer since it was done a long time ago, but I'm not sure if Veronica and Tom ever want to revisit old picks.
Ministry of Space is a comic book, and not a very long one. What's it doing on here? Oh wait, the same person who voted for that also voted for The Cat in The Hat, and a shitpile of Elric books...
I've removed The Demolished Man because the group read it this month. I've also removed Boneshaker since it is the group pick for October.
Sorry, I'm new and accidentallly added two books that have already been read. (It took me a bit to find the read bookshelf.) Please remove them.
Removed The Martian, Ancillary Justice, and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? because the group has read them, and The Sparrow because the group is currently reading it.
Hey all, I added (or thought I did) a recommendation to the list, but don't see it up there now. I'm new so just wanted to check if I did it right. I clicked 'add books to this list' above, searched, and voted for my rec. Is that the right protocol?
Tamahome wrote: "Yes, but there's 5 pages."Ah ok, I just assumed new additions would be at the end of the list. Thanks!

No, it's scored by how you ranked it. It gets 100 points for being your 1st book. If you vote for 100 books, the last one will only get 1 point from you. So the one you added will be higher than most of the books that were only voted on by one person and some that were voted on by 2 or more. Yours was 400th when I looked.
Read books I think areBlindsight (Firefall, #1)
Daemon (Daemon, #1)
Ender's Game (The Ender Quintet, #1)
Dawn (Xenogenesis, #1)

Deleted. Thanks for pointing them out.
I think we need to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. There's no way there are 1000+ people talking about the books that are getting chosen over on the message board. (Unless there's one I'm not aware of, in which case, it would be cool if someone could direct me there.) I think there are a lot of votes on these books from people who no longer swing by. Besides, I really want The Minority Report to be the next book. :) I've never read it.
Deleted because the group has read them:Doomsday Book
Slan
Ancillary Justice
The Martian
Foundation
The Rook
The Forever War
Hyperion
1Q84
Childhood's End
Ender's Game
Old Man's War
Deleted for being Fantasy:
Libriomancer
Codex Born
Skin Game
Deleted because the group has read them:The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
The Gunslinger
Dune
A Wrinkle in Time
Deleted because the group has read them:Dune (again)
The Calculating Stars
Mortal Engines
A Fire Upon the Deep
The Name of the Wind
Ninefox Gambit
A Wizard of Earthsea
Aurora
City of Stairs
The Left Hand of Darkness
A Canticle for Leibowitz
A Fire Upon the Deep has appeared againShrads of Honur / Barrayar by Bujold is on the list both as the individual volumes and as an omnibus (Cordelia's Honor)
Also The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness should be on the Other List.
Braxton Rogers and the Brave New BeyondHow would I get my novel added to the list and possibly the groups bookshelf?
