Maybe on a desert island or in a snow blizzard or an almighty storm, or after a plane crash; maybe on an expedition or trekking in the wilderness! Any kind of trapped or stranded [Fact or fiction].

Norah Lofts has a book about a little girl left on an island but a sea captain rescues her. Trying to think of the title. He takes her home to his wife in Holland who does not like her.

Was it 'her own special island'?Any kind of trapped or stranded would be great... I think I'll amend the detail :-)

I don't remember her own special island but I think that was a case where she returned home to an island where she grew up. I think it was Silver Nutmeg and there is another one too.

I am looking for a book I read as a boy. I have forgotten the title but it´s about two (or three) American(?) ww2 pilots who become stranded on a pacific island. I think their aircraft carrier was sunk. The title may or not contain the word ´whispering´ or something similar. Can anyone help with the title or author?
Hi Ian - I did a search for your book but Google didn't come up with anything that matches your description sorry.
I looked for ages using all sorts of words but found nothing too. Very frustrating. It´s probably not a classic but it was good. I liked the way it made a beautifull island sinister and depressing. I think they transferred fuel from one of the planes to the other so one of them could get away but it crashed. Very atmospheric. I think the ´whispering´ thing was the sound of the wind in the palms and it became some kind of symbol of their impotence and desperation.
It sounds like a good book and I know just how you feel! I had the same experience with a sci-fi novel I had read as a teenager but luckily I remembered one (unusual) word from the title and was able to track it down - it turned out to be a short story rather than a novel, so even more obscure!

Try Salvation on Peril Island by Nash Knight. It's a book about (among other things) a handful of plane-crash survivors stranded on a desert island in the Caribbean, with a very feelgood tone, colorful characters and plenty of wacky humor.
It says in the description Any kind of trapped or stranded ... hence my votes for The Decameron and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court 😀
