Ever read a book that was so bad it was criminal that trees had to die in the making? Anything goes and any genre is allowed, this is an opinion list and we aren't all going to have the same opinions. Only one disqualifier - there must be a dead-tree version of the book - no digital only books - since no trees died in their making.
May theworst best book win!

The list is comprised of readers' opinions, and not all readers have the opinion that Meyers and EL James write good books. YMMV.
Isn't it funny that highly rated books are always on these lists. Just once I'd like to see a list that is actually full of books that are less than 3 stars. Yeah Twilight isn't good, but at least someone who understands the English language can actually read it. It has a plot, however thin, it has characters and dialogue and whatever. There are books that just go..-*shoom*!- off the deep end or never take off to start with. We should be focusing on those failures.Twilight is not the worst book ever written and anyone who says otherwise is just feeding off their own hate like a Democrat or a Republican at the water cooler talking shit behind peoples' backs with his buddies at the Pentagon. An echo-chamber of stupidity, if you will.
From now on if the list of "worst books" or any variation thereof features Twilight as #1, it's no longer a good list, because obviously people don't seem to realize there are worse books out there, much worse.
This is such a hate list. For taste, flavors. What it isn't good for someone, its perfect for another. I don't really see the point in such a list like this.

Either that or report it as 'inappropriate' if you think it's outside GR's guidelines.
sam sam wrote: "This is such a hate list. For taste, flavors. What it isn't good for someone, its perfect for another. The list is, as the desciption says "an opinion list and we aren't all going to have the same opinions". And, like Susanna - Censored by GoodReads said earlier, there is no law that says you must vote on it. And of course the list reflects personal tastes and flavours, but that's the point of an opinion list, isn't it?
I voted for some books I thought were an absolute waste of paper (although I know others seem to enjoy them) but of course there are also books on this list which I personally very much enjoyed, while others didn't. Again, it is an opinion list, not a hate list, and aren't we all free to express our opinions? And shouldn't we respect the opinions of others, even if we disagree? Which, by the way, is why I took the time and trouble to respond to your comment...

Isn't this a list of the worst??? That is the way I took the list-

It all comes down to opinion. I love Jane Eyre, but eventually it will be voted on this list by someone who hates it.
I am ashamed of myself because I read all the books on the top. I think that by voting for them I will free my mind from those sins...

lol, I have read most of these and hey, to each their own, but I enjoyed most of them. The only one I agree with 100% is the Immortals series by Alyson Noel, my brain literally hurt reading it. Must say I am a tad shocked to see some Harry Potter's and Phillipa Gregor's on the list though.
The Sounds and the Fury?! King Lear?! After seeing this nonsense, it came less of a surprise to open page 1 and see The Hunger Games and Great Expectations there as well.Who the hell made this list and why is digital space being wasted on it?

Ummm, I made this list with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. Votes to to list are the opinions of other readers.
If you feel this 'waste of digital space' violates GR guidelines, you go right ahead and flag it.

For someone who made a list called "Trees died for this?", you're not dealing with criticism very well...

First of all, I added a lot of books because I personally don't care for them, or straight up loathe. There are also a lot of books on here that I personally liked or loved. Both opinions are valid. No one is making you read or look at this list. Hell, you could even add or vote the books you personally disliked.
This list was doing so well until I saw the Harry Potter books! =/ =(

Then you should not judge it if you have not read it.Trust me.You will fall in love with the series. If you like fantasy books, this series is ideal for you.

Well, the problem with this list is that there is no way, as far as I can see, to downvote any of the books. So, even if one person thinks a book is terrible, the book stays there, even if it's on page 7 or something.

That's why I put it off. I need a new series like I need a whole in the head :)

You assume that Misfit voted on this book. She is not the only voting and putting up books. I say this as a HUGE Harry Potter fan.

Sigh...
Once again, this list is for readers to express their opinions and I hate to break the news, but not everyone has the same opinion about books.
Or let's try another way, 105 GR members voted for Fifty Shades as a bad book and 70 GR members voted for Twilight.
If you feel the list is outside of GR's terms, then feel free to flag it for staff review.
I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you: that The Fountainhead is languishing at #56.Good to see Phillippa Gregory getting some votes, as well as the execrable My Sisters Keeper, and Eat, Pray, Love. Is The Lovely Bones is on there? If not, it should be.
And some people are taking this waaaaay too seriously.
PS. I want the address and phone number of anyone who votes for Jane Eyre.
There's one positive with a list like this. Chances of author spam or circle jerk votes are pretty slim.

Misfit is absolutely right though when she says 'There's one positive with a list like this. Chances of author spam or circle jerk votes are pretty slim.'
And never mind the people who take this list too seriously or who don't seem to understand what 'opinion' means. Who cares, as long as it's fun to the majority of us.
