Alexis Winning I am such a visual person, so movies/TV for me, but I think I've seen all the movies!

There is nothing quite like getting lost in a good novel though

Greg It's a difficult poll to answer. I've only read short stories dealing with zombies as opposed to novels so far (e.g. The Mammoth Book of Zombies), although I've watched a number of movies (e.g. Return of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later) and TV series too (like The Walking Dead).

Some of the short stories I've read were really creepy but I think I'd be more grossed out than creeped out by zombie movies.

I think I'd need to read some zombie novels before I can answer this poll truthfully.

Glinda Harrison I guess I am the only one who likes novels. I had been watching the films since Night of the Living Dead, and only started reading the books when I got my first Kindle. David Moody's Autumn series was the first one I read. Now I can't get enough. :)

Anthologies are hit or miss for me - Just read Jesse Petersen's In the Dead and really enjoyed it.

Adam How about graphic novels? I think "The Walking Dead" series has spoiled me for almost anything else. The most recent zombie novel I've read that comes to mind (and was actually pretty good) was Zombie, Ohio by Scott Kenemore and it's written from the zombie's point of view.

Unfortunately, I can't read graphic novels easily any more due to vision problems. So, I haven't read the series, although I would love to! Maybe once tablets finally come into their own....

Are there other zombie graphic novels besides The Walking Dead and the Max Brooks ones? If so, that might make for an interesting blog post. :)

Holden Attradies Damn, I knew I'd forget something when I made the post! Well, that's why I left the write in option open. Are there any other zombie graphic novels besides Walking Dead out there? I'd be interested to add any to me "to-read" list.

message 7: by Glinda (new)

Glinda Harrison The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks by Max Brooks is one. There is also The Mammoth Book of Zombie Comics by David Kendall.

message 8: by Holden (new)

Holden Attradies I'll have to check out Mammoth book of Zombie comics! I have the Max Brooks one, but honestly I found it kind of disappointing.

David Mod
I think there's a lot more to explore with zombies than just the initial outbreak and panic (which a lot of books and films concentrate on). What happens when the dead begin to decay and lose their physical strength? What happens when the food runs out? How do the survivors cope the longer they're on the run/under siege/fighting? What happens after the dead?

I don't mind if they're books or movies, but I really enjoy multi-part zombie stories which cover more than just what happens in the first week of the apocalypse!

You make a good point that many films (novels I can't yet comment on) don't deal with what happens after the initial outbreak. However, you do get to see zombies weakening with the passage of time in 28 Days Later, which already starts a month after the initial outbreak.

I think also that a number of short stories don't deal with apocalyptic outbreaks but rather the protagonist's unexpected encounter with one or a few zombies, e.g. Lovecraft's 'Herbert West: re-animator'.
