Goodreads asked Verna Clay:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Verna Clay Keep writing, writing, writing. The more your write, the easier it becomes. And then edit, edit, edit. I wish I could write a paragraph just once or twice, but it usually takes up to a dozen rewrites before I'm satisfied. To complete a novel, a nice goal is to write a thousand words a day, which is only about four pages. Taking two to three months to write 60,000 - 70,000 words, you can then edit over the next two to three months. Of course, this is theoretical, but it works pretty well. Finally, read, read, read bestselling authors that you love.
