Goodreads asked David Lowther:

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

David Lowther Since most of my novels are European based I guess I wouldn't travel to those countries with which I'm already familiar. However, having just read The Thread, a superb novel by Victoria Hislop, I'm very tempted to say Greece and, in particular Thessaloniki where the novel is set.

Hislop makes the city so exciting and, as a major port, has a wealth of history, dating back to biblical times and earlier. It was once part of the Byzantine Empire and later under the rule of the Ottomans. Despite the tragedies that have befalling Thessaloniki; fire, population exchange, earthquake, German occupation, civil war and dictatorship, there must be so much still remaining to illuminate those past days.
