Racine Zackula asked Janelle Diller:

I could tell from the book that you love parts of Kansas. Have you been back and revisited places as research? Have places changed/stayed the same in any unusual ways?

Janelle Diller I do love Kansas. I left over 40 years ago(!) but remain a Kansan at heart. I get back to the state multiple times a year because I still have family and friends who live there. Just a few months ago, I was in Kiowa County, where the book takes place. In many ways, that part of Kansas hasn't changed much--except that there are a lot more wind generators! Greensburg, which is the county seat, is the one place that's dramatically different. In 2007, a tornado blew most of the town away, so the Greensburg you see today is entirely different than the Greensburg I had in mind when I wrote the book. That was the town I had in mind when I created the fictitious town of Sweethome.
