Goodreads asked Will Hunt:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Will Hunt When I was sixteen years old, I discovered an abandoned train tunnel that ran under my house in Providence, RI. I spent hours exploring that tunnel, sometimes with friends, other times alone, just wandering in the dark. In the years following, I started poking around in sewers and subways and catacombs under cities with crews of urban explorers; from there, it was mines and tombs and caves in the most remote corners of the world. All to say, I've been fixated on underground spaces for more than half my life. I wrote this book as a way to exorcise that fixation, to articulate why I feel connected to dark and hidden places, and to investigate how underworlds have captivated all of us, from the earliest days of our species.
