Goodreads asked Shelley Cass:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Shelley Cass All of my books have come to me firstly as images. I can see a scene and a character, and the whole world of the novel springs forth from that one image in my imagination.
It happens at odd times. I'll be on the cusp of falling asleep. Or I'll be driving and a new song comes on. Once I was even sitting in the manicure chair, fingers trapped in a bowl of polish remover - when a random music charts show played a video clip I'd never seen and couldn't hear - and an entire novel exploded its way into my head.
After I see that scene and begin to get it out of me and to develop it, I have to feel my way to find out what the overall plot is to match.
