To answer your questions: I never went to a boarding school. However, I attended a relatively small magnet school from 5th through 12th grade, which I suspect had a similar sense of existing it its own universe, with its own set of rules. I wouldn't say I did any teaching, but I subbed at a few Bay Area private schools in the late 90's.
