What was your inspiration for writing YA books? What was your gateway book into YA?

Lindsey Duga Great question! I've always loved writing and I used to write with a friend when I was in high school. All our characters were our age so I was writing YA without even realizing that it was an actual age-group in publishing. (It was also a little bit before the Twilight craze, but I guess that was technically my first gateway YA book) but when it came down to actually wanting to publish a novel I ended up with writing a middle grade book first! Then the idea for KISS OF THE ROYAL came along and that ended up being YA by nature.

At the end of the day, the age-group that I write for a novel comes down to the story idea itself. And my YA ended up being the first one to be published :)
