Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Omar Fink Space elevators had always seemed like a fantasy component of science fiction rather than hard science. I read an article about how the engineering was sound, but no known material was strong enough to actually build a space elevator... until carbon nanotubes were discovered. I started reading everything I could find about space elevators and the more I read, the more excited I got. Eventually, an idea crystallized about a threat from a giant comet that would force an evacuation of the planet using space elevators as the only serious method. Three years later, I had my first book.
