How do you deal with writer’s block?

Stella Inox Out of the preset questions issued by the Good reads team, this is the only one that made me laugh and want to answer.

I don't get writers block as such, but what I do get is disobedient characters.

I'm quite methodical when I map out a story and have my chapters and full outline ready to go when I first start writing. But every now and then, the story takes a complete turn as to where I thought it was going to go and no one winds up more surprised by what happens than me.

Sometime I'll run with it and ignore the outline and other times, my characters and I wind up in a stand off, where I sit in front of my PC and refuse to type because I don't like where the story line is going.

So it's not so much a writers block but a stubborn stand off that I deal with. I usually have 5 - 10 story lines on the go at any one time so i'll flip to an alternate tale until mu characters behave...
