What's easier - to kidnap someone walking alone on an remote country road - or break into a home with parents, siblings (and shotguns!!) in order to do the same?

It isn't believable that Randy's actions are motivated by a land dispute. He would have to be stark raving insane to plan a revenge kidnapping for that, then commit mass murder in the process. Yet no one seems to notice anything off about him?!

I, too, have wondered why Randy had to kill the family. Still, I really enjoyed this book. It was atmospheric and tense. Very good.
