A lot of the idea's for my debut novel "Impelled" derived from my own experiences working with or owning horses, and the time I spent working in the horse industry. I have done everything from working student, barn manager, show groom and equine health product sales over the years. I was able to pull from my own experiences and feelings about previous jobs and the horses I've loved along the way into my book. Since it also has a strong romance plot, I also pulled from feelings about relationships I had when I was the same age as the main character of my novel.
I think adding those things in there help make a book and characters feel real and come to life - which is certainly what I am for every time I sit down to write!
