Goodreads asked Cortina Jackson:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Cortina Jackson If you believe in your material, do not be discouraged, when turned down by agents, or publishers, etc. Know that it is not a reflection of your work. I live by the mantra "if it is to be it is up to me" that applies to my writing, my publishing, and my marketing.

Have your work edited, let others read it. Oftentimes, writers see their book completely, and understand what they are trying to convey to the reader; however, when you let someone else read it, they need clarification. So accept, criticism and advice, so that others will embrace it.
