Goodreads asked Phil Rink:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Phil Rink All of the Jimi & Isaac books are about exploring an issue, not about presenting a solution. "Jimi & Isaac 2a: Keystone Species" is about the interconnectedness of ocean life, but also about the motivations of the players: hubris can be confused with altruism; and there is a fine line between adventure and reckless behavior.

I wrote the book to give kids a place to stand while they evaluate the simplistic arguments from all sides of the environmental debate. The setting, the characters, and the arguments were all familiar to me from our years boating on and living near Puget Sound and the Salish Sea.
