Write something that is interesting to you. If you really enjoy detective stories, but decide to write science fiction because it sells better, then you will most likely be left feeling unfulfilled by your work. If money is the main reason you are doing something you will not be producing your best work. All types of writing can sell well if they are written well. You just need time to build an audience and become known.
