Neil Brennan
Neil Brennan asked Dave Cullen:

(Not finished the book yet but...) Columbine is amongst the finest books I've read all year - wondering if there were any particular dark moments in the writing process? Both on your end with frustrations in the writing process and in other ways with the dark subject matter...

Dave Cullen Thanks. Yes, it was a rough project. I had a bout of depression the first year and a tough relapse seven years in, following several thing in quick succession: writing the Dave Sanders chapter, and 4 copycat shootings within about 10 days.

I had to set some new limits with my shrink after that.

Beyond that, it was kind of a dark cloud until I finished. There was really nothing like finishing. I noticed about a month after I turned in the final page proofs that the extended crying fits (which were running about 3 a week) had stopped. I'm happy to say, they've never come back.

It's good to be done. :)
