Intrepid Dragon II is the boat that originally inspired my novel, Water Ghosts. Bob and I spent some time in Honolulu's Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor when we had our sailboat Topaz. This old wooden junk, moored just a few rows away from Topaz, captured my imagination. In better days the vessel had sailed around the world and had also appeared in movies and in Hawaii Five-O. Intrepid Dragon II piqued my interest in junks, Chinese maritime history, and shui gui -- water ghosts.
