Goodreads asked Ryusho Jeffus:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Ryusho Jeffus The one most recently published, Physician's Good Medicine, was a project recommended by the former Bishop of Nichiren Order of North America the Ven. Shokai Kanai. He suggested that I write it because of my work as a hospital chaplain and my work in providing spiritual support.

It was not an easy book to write, which surprised me. Perhaps this was because I had originally planned to write about the parable of the Burning House.

The Physician's Good Medicine is an exploration of the short parable of the Physician and his Ill Children found in Chapter XVI of the Lotus Sutra. I used the idea of Oratio Divina and personal story as the framework for the exploration.

I've been introducing spiritual practices from other faiths as a way to re-enter the Lotus Sutra from a different perspective. I've also been interested in how other practices can inform our understanding of the Lotus Sutra in fresh ways that may enable the practitioner to find new meaning for contemporary life.
