Richard Thomas
Richard Thomas asked Lize Jacobs:

Who are your three greatest literary influences, and why?

Lize Jacobs First, I would say Jane Austin. Her ability to portray a detailed story and rich characters with mainly dialogue is astounding.
Secondly, Aaron Sorkin (the writer of TV series' such as the 'Newsroom' and films such as 'The American President') His talent for clever, intelligent dialogue, that makes you laugh and think at such a fast rate, still baffles my mind. I love intelligent comedy with a message.
Thirdly, Amy Sherman-Palladino (Writer of TV series' such as 'Gilmore Girls' and 'Bunheads') Her dialogue is quirky, clever, fast and if you blink, you'll miss the comedy.
See a pattern here? I love dialogue and the artistry in writing it well.
I'm throwing in one more, just for kicks. Shonda Rhimes (Writer of 'Scandal' TV series) - She can bind you with her intriguing monologues (with an unforeseen twist at the end) and just as quickly switch to a second lengthy monologue without boring you, making you think about it long after the character has stopped talking.
