Goodreads asked Kimberly A. Bettes:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Kimberly A. Bettes As with anything, the more you do it, the better you get. Therefore, WRITE WRITE WRITE. Sure, some of the things you write are going to suck and suck hard. But no one starts out the best at what they do. It takes practice, years of honing your skills. And even the seasoned pros who have been writing for decades continue to get better with each story they write. So don't worry about being bad. That's just part of it. The key is learning from your mistakes and constantly moving forward.
