Goodreads asked Danny Knestaut:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Danny Knestaut The idea for Arachnodactyl came while I was trying to figure out how to coax a minor character in another novel to behave in a certain way. I needed him to be a thorn in the side of both the heroine and the villain. I needed a character who would refuse to take a side even as tension ratcheted up around him. So I started to think about what kind of life events would give a character this perspective. What would a person have to go through in life to feel that he can't fully trust anyone, that he was ultimately on his own, but yet would feel compelled by either guilt or conscience to get involved in the strife around him? I started to write a short biography of such a fictional person. The biography kept growing until I had the outline for Arachnodactyl.
