I was taught early on that needing inspiration was a sign of amatuerism and pros don't wait for that spark but hit the grindstone. I guess I'm from that school and impending deadlines as a writer, cartoonist and illustrator create a frantic pace of producing and being efficient as possible. Maybe the lesson here is to solve writer's block, work under the gun.
