Goodreads asked Kay Stewart:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Kay Stewart I'm one of those lucky people who doesn't suffer from writer's block, possibly because of the way I write. I expect to do a lot of rewriting, and so it doesn't bother me to know that the draft I'm working on is unfocused, badly organized, or inert. My mental note says FIX. Even when I hope a manuscript is finished, I'm willing to tear it apart on good advice, as happened with our latest mystery, Tour de Mort.

Problems with plot or characterization are another matter. When I'm stalled because I need to work out an answer to a problem, I find it useful to brainstorm with my co-author or writing group, go for a walk, or take a long, hot bath. Anything to free the mind.
