How do you go about selecting a publisher for your books?

I'm extremely picky when looking at publishers. )That's probably why I haven't sent anything out to one yet. lol)

I start by doing a google search and reading over their website, but I also look them up on Amazon and see how their different books are doing, how or if they interact with readers (ie if they have their authors review their books, if they attack negative reviewers, etc), and look at the samples to see what kind of writing they endorse -- Third Person Limited, First Person, etc. I write mostly in Third Person Omniscient, so this is an important question for me.

My next step is to contact their authors and see how they feel about their publisher. If they pass all of those to my satisfaction, then I'll submit.
