“In the chaos of the world, it’s very easy for us to believe that brokenness is ultimate. And if that’s the case, then the best thing we can do is find a safe place, gather our loved ones, and hunker down. The best thing we can do is stay close to home. But Scripture offers a slightly different reading. It tells us that God’s world—for all its brokenness—is good and worth discovering. But discovering this goodness only comes by sacrifice and faith. Not only must we believe that God exists, we must believe that He rewards those who seek Him. “I would have despaired,” David confesses in Psalm 27:13, “unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” (NASB).”
