“The British maintained direct control of four major areas in Egyptian society. They included: “security of imperial communications of Egypt, the defense of Egypt against foreign aggression or interference, the protection of foreign interests and foreign minorities, and Sudan and its future status.”9 In other words, the British kept control over all aspects of the country that was in their interest and not in the best interests of the Egyptian people.
