Bookish Confessions
Dog-ear the pages?! *gasp* Cruelty to books! LOL! JK :oP1. I always have more than one book going. Usually about 3-5, actually...
2. I love to read aloud. Yes... to myself. Though I try to avoid doing that in public.
3. I love the smell of old books!! I've gotten some strange looks (usually at the library) as a result of this.
Great idea!
Haha I'm with you Aery!! Dog eared pages!! Never for me!! I try and keep my books looking as new as possible!!
1. I like to only read one book at a time.
2. I am awful with turning to end of the book and ruining it!! Grr!!!
3. I like to read aloud to myself as well! Not in public of course!!

I know, I know, dog-earing pages is shameful ;) I only read aloud when the book is exceptionally boring and I can't concentrate on what's happening.
yea I don't dog-ear fiction although I do sometimes in my Bible or books I HAVE to remember something from!
I can't read more than one fiction book at once. ;)
I read aloud but quietly to myself until I realize I'm not doing it any more. ;)
I like the smell of books but yellowed/moldy pages of old books make me lightheaded and I can't read them for more than like 5 minutes. :/
I also find it harder to understand classics til I've seen the movie! ;D

I like to try and read a book in 1 1/2 days. :) its always my goal. I don't let it take me longer than a week though!
Good for you Alice! I've been working through David Copperfield for over a year! It is my life goal to finish it before I graduate :)
1)The only book I have dog eared pages is Walking with Aslan so I can find my favorite quotes easily.2)I love it when authors have love triangles and/or forbidden love.
3)I am very picky on what books I read.
4)I give a book 100 to 150 pages before I give up on it if I don't like it
5)My biggest secret is that a have a thing for bad boys in books sometimes. Some of my favorites include Ash form the Iron Fey series and Will form the Infernal Devices
6)I talk to my books.

I so agree about fantasy.

I used to force myself to finish every book I started -- even if I REALLY didin't like it & it took me a year or longer to read. But I got tired of wasting my time on books like that when I could be enjoying some really good ones. Now, I generally will read 1/4 - 1/2 of book before giving up on it.I sometimes underline fav parts & quotes in books I own.
I love to buy old books because I like the way they look. Garage sales & re-sell shops are great!
yea I like the look of old books, too. ;)
I can't push myself through boring. :/
I write the quotes I like in a notebook, piece of paper, or find them on GR and "like" them! lol ;D
I love laughing out loud at funny parts in books.
I also like exclaiming over books; like when they frustrate me.

I like to read out loud (when I'm alone) and kind of "act" them out. Am I crazy?I also go over fascinating characters in my mind and reason things out and explain stuff. (or sometimes out loud...YES, I know it's crazy but I talk to myself...so EMBARASSING BUT TRUE!)
I write my favorite quotes down in a notebook, too!
My favorite heroes are usually gentlemen.
My favorite heroines are typically feminine yet strong. Definitly not a sissy. However I hate it when they make the girl tougher than they guy. The guy should save the girl. Not the other way around.
Anne -- No, you're not crazy. ;)
I, ummm... kinda do the same thing...
I do that too, especially if I don't own the book.
Yeah... ;)
So True!
Totally agree with you Anne! You are certainly not crazy; however if you are you've found the right group!
No not crazy!!
Love the heroes of the book!! Generally the best characters and ones to dream about ;)

OMW ANNE I DO THE SAME THING THATS NOT CRAZY!!!. ... . or even if it is.....AT LEAST IM NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!! =D
yea, everybody loves the hero. ;)
yea, everybody loves the hero. ;)
I read more than one book at a time. After I read a book I watch every movie ever made that was based on it. (Or at least I try to)
lol whereas with me, I watch the movie, then read all the books about it! ;D I like visa verse to tho. ;)
1. I like to smell books when I open them, especially older ones to make sure they don't smell moldy2. The only classics I've read would be Louisa May Alcott's (are those classics?) and Elizabeth Gaskell's
3. I HATE bending the cover back on books that I own!
4. I can't stand it when the first or last page is glued to the cover and not connected to the rest of the book. :/ Drives me crazy.
5. I agree with the other Nicole :) I'm usually "in favor of" a story's "friendly rogue" (but not the evil ones). Hmm...that reminds me of the quote from Anne of Avonlea:
Anne: Fred is... extremely good.
Marilla: That is exactly what he should be! Would you want to marry a wicked man?
Anne: Well, I wouldn't marry anyone who was really wicked, but I think I'd like it if he could be wicked and wouldn't.
Marilla: You'll have better sense some day, I hope.
@Nicole --- 1. Definitely - 2. I've read several classics & many that are just old - 3. Totally agree - 4. Grrr! Frustrating! - 5. I kinda agree with Anne... ;)
I tend to become obsessed with books or an author and find that I need to read everything by them. Also if it is a series I find that I need to reread the entire series when a new book come out. Also I get so into a book sometimes that I forget where I am and people need to talk to me a few times to get my attention.
Stephanie wrote: "Also if it is a series I find that I need to reread the entire series when a new book come out. ..."I do the same... :)
As for for forgetting where I am -- yeah, I do that too. It frustrates my family sometimes. ;)
I know! My sister gets so mad at me, cause when I read, I tune everything else out and she has to almost yell to get my attention.(And thanks for not thinking I'm too crazy. Glad to know I'm not the only one.)
I get so wound up in the story too! I am reading and reading, or even imagining I'm a Character, then suddenly I lift my eyes from the page.. And I'm hit with reality...
Which is annoying as I would rather Be in the book ;)
Which is annoying as I would rather Be in the book ;)
Yes!! Always!! Sometime I can picture someone, then other times I imagine Someone who I don't know who he/she is ;)
Anne wrote: "Yeah. Do you guys ever pick actors to play the people in your books? You know, plan for the movie?"My oldest younger brother & I sometimes discuss which actors/actresses would be best for each character. It makes for some interesting conversations... :)
I think about it sometimes. There is an author I read who wrote a series of books who actually on her website posted pictures of who she thinks would best portray the characters if a movie was ever made.

1. I don't like books (or advertisements or anything) that dumb men down. 2. I find myself bending back the front cover of a paperback and if it's 1 of my daughters books, I usually get caught. (see Nicole above...)
3.Once in a blue moon, I'll get so into a book that I just about asked a prayer request for them in Sunday school.
4. I think books are USUALLY way better than the movie version. EXCEPT w/ Under the Greenwood tree, Magic of ordinary days, etc.
5. @Anne, YES! actors!
6. I don't like it when the people on the cover don't match up with what I think they should look like.
I picture actors and cast people for the "movie" ALL THE TIME!! How funny, casting directors would prob'ly find their job much easier if they just asked the public their opinion and picked one of the choices :)

I'll start:
1. I "dog-ear pages" (I fold the top corner of the page I'm on to mark my place). It's a terrible habit, but I can't bring myself to use a bookmark!
2. I read several books at once. I work as a library page, which means I'm in charge of putting all the books back. This isn't always a good thing, because I have access to all of these books, and can stop to read different descriptions. It often happens that I bring home two or three books every time I work, and a huge pile is building on my desk! I start so many, and just this past weekend I had a power reading couple days where I finished three novels. (wipes brow) It was tough, but I pulled through ;) It's not hard for me to remember plots or anything, but I should probably learn to stick with one at a time :)
3. I have never read a "classic" without first watching the movie. Correction: I have never read and understood a classic without first watching the movie. You should have seen how confused I was after reading Northanger Abbey, Wuthering Heights, and Great Expectations the first time I read those :) Having since watched all those movies (except Great Expectations) I'm much better off :)
That's all I can think of now, what about you?
