Sorry that these are somewhat late. You can completely blame Paulina - she had a bit of trouble choosing a story for us.

As written in the message a little while back, November will be our Steampunk month. I personally love the genre and I hope you will too - if you don't already! :) Remember: steampunk is a genre that takes place in a society that uses steampowered technology (think Victorian period or 19th century). For a recommended list, please go here: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/61...

My nomination is Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. It's a really great story and one of my personal favourites. It's YA (Young Adult), a bit different for us. Nothing wrong with YA though - it's one of my favourite genres :) Go here to watch the Book Trailer:

Paulina has decided to do a short story (-.-). I've never been a huge fan of them, to be honest. However, Cory Doctorow is really great and it has references to Oliver Twist, I'm told. It's called "Clockwork Fagin".

Please feel free to leave a nomination for a gothic steampunk novel. I'm only going to keep this thread active for one week since we are close to November. Then I'll put up the poll.

Thanks!

Sara For my in-person YA book club this month, we are reading This Dark Endeavor, which is a prequel to Frankenstein involving alchemy. I am enjoying it so far. Here's a link: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/97...

I've not read it yet, but The Dark Unwinding has gotten some good reviews. Here's its Goodreads page: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...

Not gothic, per se, but Boneshaker is steampunk with zombies: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...

Also, not exactly steampunk, but popular among its adherents, are the works of H.G. Wells. Perhaps we could read The Island of Dr. Moreau?

Icy-Cobwebs-Crossing-SpaceTime (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 10 comments Kady Cross has a lovely steampunk series, though not really Gothic, I don't think, beginning with The Girl in the Clockwork Collar
also Cassandra Clare has a separate series, sort of prequels to the Mortal Instruments series, which begins with Clockwork Prince.
For me, anything Steampunk is perfect:)

Mallory, the one I'm referring to in my recommendation is The Infernal Devices - the prequels to the Mortal Instrument series. The first one is, in fact, Clockwork Angel, my recommended book for November.

Paulina (paulinabibliophile) | 192 comments I've always thought steampunk was an easily looked-over genre. There are enough of them, in my opinion. So regardless of which book (or short story, :p Stephen) is chosen, I'm reading a bunch of these! lol

Ashley (booknerdwithoutglasses) Sounds great and I am on board.

Jeremy Hanes (jerjoe76) I really like Scott Westerfield "Leviathan" trilogy. Very good and Cherie Priest " the clockwork century" novels --
