How about doing something like...finding an item in a difficult place to get House points?
ex- a Teacher talks about how the root of a Whomping Willow has very special properties. But, the only roots that are good are ones that are deep below the ground. So a student would have to get past the Whomping Willows branches to the small tunnel that leads to the Shrieking Shack and discover a different secret tunnel that goes under the Whomping Willow and have to fight off....some kind of monster that lives underground to get to the roots.

Well, wanna make the characters the same age/house? I have 11 Ravenclaw,11 Gryffindor, 11 Gryffindor, 13 Hufflepuff, I think 11 Slytherin, 16 something, 61 kitchens(house elf), and I am making a 14 Slytherin
probably gonna make either a 16 or 15 year old potter for Gryffindor, then Merari will be a 17 Ravenclaw, and ima make one more Ravenclaw who will be like 13 or 14

Merry Christmas and goodwill to all. Not just goodwill to man, because c'mon. Goodwill should also go to women and children and animals. And if we include our dearly departed, we might as well include those living undead.
Anyways, goodwill to all.

The holidays are here, which means it is the season to be joyous, and come together with your amazingly annoying family, and for one night out of the year you can actually get along with them while wearing your ugly Christmas sweaters.
Not everyone's family is like that? Hmmm.
But, just as the holidays are here, so is the new year, which in turn means, obviously, that this one, 2012, is ending.
And what do Wizards and Witches likes us do when the end of the year comes?
We see who won house cup and celebrate appropriately.
So instead of running a December contest, we will simply run the House Cup contest. Much easier, don't you think?
And no, we will not have many ways for you to win points.
Basically, besides the 'Musical' contest. ( This one comes with 8,000 points to your choice of house, no strings attached! All you have to do is get two other charries, (OF NOT YOUR OWN!) gather in one room and sing a song together. The same song. In some cool musical number. Got it? Okay! Go!! (All posts have to be four sentences or longer!) Go!! Ends on December 17th, just because this is fun. We will only award points to those who earn them in class through their characters or for good deeds.
Points can also be lost, and we want this one to be interesting.
So go to class, do good things or complete the 'Musical' contest to earn points.
Commit crimes or break rules to loose points. It's up to you!
At the end of this month we will see who has most points, and award that house the House Cup of 2012!

Right now, Ravenclaw is in the lead, with Gryffindor coming in second. Slytherin, third and Hufflepuff lagging behind with an impressively small score point. Get in the game, guys.
So, we will see who wins this game, and whoever does gets a party for their house only.
