Here we are -- leaving behind the turbulent holiday times to get into selecting our B2M Club choices for February 2013. The only genre group left to be read in this club is War and Western Fiction.

Rules are as usual - only one nomination per member, that must have its film adaptation too.

If you like someone else's choice, feel free to say so, because if there would be more nominations than reasonable for one poll, there will be second nomination round, here in the same thread.

My nomination (couldn't wait anymore ;):
Dances With Wolves by Michael Blake Dances With Wolves by Michael Blake

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln

I think this counts, as it's about the American Civil War, but maybe not if it's more focused on the life of Lincoln in general.

Viorel Dan | 1 comments Hello, and a very Happy Merry New Year to all of you,
It happens that i read this book since a few weeks ago, i believe is very worthy to be read, is also about a great war, even if it is a different, mythological war, but with very many intiatic knowledge to be transfered, after my humble opinion, is Hermes the Olympian, written by David Rosser. I will try to read anyway, the other books too ;)

Yes, it's fine choice. I like the others too, Sarah's Key especially, that would be really different one to read :) And it's French too? Oh, I really need to refresh my rusty French :D

message 8: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments Sarah's Key is probably a lot shorter (and I found it at a yard sale recently, yay!) so could be a good, fast read for us. I'm not sure how long Team of Rivals is. I'd happily read either, though :)

Team of rivals is just shy of 1000 pages of endless quotes and unimaginable details. So I am told

message 10: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments Lol, sadly, I'd probably really enjoy it, 1000 pages and all!

Travis (travistousant) | 58 comments It is my alphabet by author last name challenge book for "G" so I'll know in a little while how it is

message 13: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments I've heard that too. I think it's on my list.

message 14: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Marie (sunshineyheidi) My vote is for team of rivals :)

Margaret (peggynell) | 14 comments I second The Assassination Of Jesse James - I've been wanting to read that for awhile. Thought the movie was great, esp. Casey Affleck.

message 17: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments Schindler's List or Schindler's Ark is something I have to nominate. The film is so moving for a war film and I've been told the book is also excellent.

message 18: by Olga (new)

Olga Miret (goodreadscomolganm) I also liked the film 'The Assassination of Jesse James'. It has made me think of 'True Grit' though...2 very good movie versions and an excellent novel. (Sorry I don't seem to be able to add a link)

message 19: by Chichi (new)

Chichi Chaima | 1 comments my vote is for lonesome dove

message 20: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 22 comments Lincoln, the best writer of all our presidents, is endlessly fascinating.

Also I like the idea of reading a book that brings home how much pain gun violence causes, rather than glorifying, as Atticus once said, "a man with a gun in his hand."

Didn't know this film was based on the book. Till now, thanks :D

All right, closing nominations now -- all were great, I am ready to read absolutely any of them! I hope you won't mind, as eight is still tolerable number of nominations, I'll include even those that weren't seconded :)
