My reading begins today at lunch! I even have a notebook set aside to start taking various notes as I progress.
I don't have a notebook, but my Kindle lets me highlight passages and has a notes feature. :D (Going to start this afternoon.)BTW, I'm @CasualFolami on Twitter.
Hey, Sylvia, welcome! I had nearly all my readings on my tablet last semester. It was so nice to not have to drag big thick binders to class. I still need to buy the War of the Ancients trilogy. I think I will look for it in Kindle format.
As a Horde player, I think I'm falling in love with the Draenei (shhhh don't tell anyone). and BTW thanks Apsana and Skolnick for motivating us to read these great stories. I'm @jmt225 on twitter.
I have started reading. But the type so small on my I pad. It's soooo small that the whole book fits on 75 pages :s
AHHHGGGGGGG!!!!!! I have lost my copy of this great historical document chronically the tragic beginning of the demon Horde :( Barnes and Nobles omw!
My copy is in Chronicles of War with several other books. The compilation is cool, but it is a big honkin' book. Just read the Prologue and Chapter One. I want to know more about the Naaru.
Just listened to the introduction podcast and I completely agree, this is the best book to start with. Interesting fact; the prolouge is a rewrite of the at time exsisting Eredar/Sargaras lore. I look foward to my second read and thank you all for this wonderful group!
Purchasing the book tomorrow (pay day). Can't wait to start. @AverageGeekLife on twitter. Love the idea of a WoW reading group!!!!
Welcome! I felt like I was lapping up canon reading that prologue. I want to go do some BC content just to see Kil'jaeden.
Read Chapter 2 last night. I saw "Terokkar forest" mentioned and felt like I could visualize what was going on.
I thought I got enough WoW playing the game. I would read other stuff... But this is really adding a new dimension to some of the places and characters in WoW. I do kinda feel bad at this point that I am playing a Warlock - well - not that bad.
Finished! I feel terrible for both Draenei and Orcs. Don't wanna spoil anything, but it makes me feel awkward to play my warlock. :P
Finished my re-read tonight. Wish the kindle version had better divisions when the context switches. Having Gul'Dan talking in one paragraph and then Durotan talking in a separate location is highly jarring.
I've been doing the Dominance Offensive questlines, and I can't help but feel like Garrosh is leading the Horde down the path Gul'dan lead the orcs in Rise of the Horde.

Oh! I didn't even thing of it like that. Interesting!

If you keep doing the Operation Shield Wall dailies Jaina starts to sound like Arthas right before He got to Frostmourne :)
Just finished the prologue and into chapter 1. I confess I have never known the lore behind Velon, Archimonde and Kil'jadeen.. in the prologue I almost chocked when I realized they had been friends! So much I have apparently missed! :0
Just finished the book. So very, very cool. I love how it ties Outland and Azeroth together and helps me understand the Orc v. Human struggle and its beginnings. This was my for book in the WOW series after playing the game since Vanilla and I think I'm hooked! Thanks to Apsana for putting this together!
I'd disagree in that Gul'Dan being the most evil. Sargeres the Titan is the most evil. Gul'Dan just happened to make deals with all the wrong entities...
I've finally finish the book today. I've been playing since vanilla, but never payed attention to the story line(I know I missed out on a lot) when bc happen I avoided outlands as I don't like change ;) plus I got bored with the first zone. I didn't know Orc originated from there so that was news to me. I also didn't know the Draenei where not from out lands but somewhere else. There has been so much lore I've missed out. And I guess my next alt. will just be slow lvling to try and learn it all ;)
Still working on my way thought it. I've read the book before. But I had forgotten the paradise lost overtones of the books. You could say there is the element of greek tragedy. Where you start on a high note and goes down down down from there. This also brings up another point I love the way thrall is used to introduce each character and its through this we learn he sees the Horde of World of Warcraft like the collection of Clans much like orcs are shown to be in this book. It is in this way that Thrall tried to recapture those old days.
If you read tides of war early in the books when the leaders of the Horde meet it talks about past meetings of the leaders of the horde how they used to festival of ideas of fellowship sounds much like orcs and there clan gatherings. And now Garrosh wants a bring on the races of Horde into line much like Gul'dan did with the clans.
If you have ever read Warcraft Manga 4 & 5 there is a two part story one part in each issue that deals with Durka, and how she when from a sick child to a healthy woman. Its not really required reading but its a interesting tie in if you can get your hands on it.
I finished the book yesterday at work. WoW! so awesome to get all this background! I rolled a draenai hunter and FINALLY understood all the quest texts and what they were talking about.. before it never really made sense and I just blew past it. now I'm enjoying reading all the quest text. I do have questions though-so the orcs got to azeroth through a portal with Minevh's help, ok that makes sense. How long did it take for the Naaru to rescue Velen then? and they Naaru must have had another ship, as their previous one had crashed and become an ancient artifact to the orcs (which now explains some of the Nagrand horde quests chains I did and makes tons of sense)? So it seems it took Velen and the rest of the remaining draenai almost 30 years to travel from outlands to Azeroth by spaceship then? and how did they become enemies with the Blood Elves so quickly? I need to find back ground stories on those questions so I can understand it. But I really enjoyed this book despite the desperate undertones and the sadness of Duroton and Orgimm watching their people be turned into manical killers by an overzealous, power hungry bad guy. :(
After the orcs leave outland the Dreanai go into hiding up in Zangarmarsh (now an Alliance base)At this point the Dreanai split into two groups. The Broken, Dreanai that are slowing being corrputed by the fel magic in Outland and the followers of Velen, that build the Exodar and gets out of dodge. There is no real outright hate between the Dreanai and the Blood Elves except for they see the Blood Elf's thirst for Arcane magic and make the connection with corruption and evil. If you notice however the Dreanai and the BLoodelfs are usually the first ones from each side to work together to solve a mutual problem (Blood Elf devotion to the Light with the Blood Knights helps this cause). There are a couple short stories that talk about the Dreanai after the siege of Shatrath and if you watcht the game Trailer for Patch 2.1 "The Black Temple" it explains alot about the Broken and Outland. Hope this helps.
